EU has a ‘USB-C’ warning for Apple

Apple may consider limiting the charging speed and other capabilities of uncertified USB-C cables for its upcoming iPhone 15 models, according to rumours. However, European Commissioner Thierry Breton has reportedly warned that the move would violate the EU's requirement for wired charging devices to have USB-C ports. Apple must comply with this law by 2021. The EU is set to release a guide in Q3 2021 to create a uniform interpretation of the legislation enforcing USB-C. It remains to be seen whether Apple will attempt to limit USB-C cable functionality.
