IBM plans a hiring freeze, may replace 7,800 jobs with AI

The reduction will primarily affect non-customer-facing departments like HR, which employs around 26,000 people. Approximately 7,800 positions are set to be automated, and the report notes that IBM considers automated tasks like providing employment verification letters or moving employees between departments.
