Google app billing policy: How HC's ruling may be 'bad news' for some startups

The Madras High Court has dismissed the appeals of 14 out of 16 Indian startups against Google's app billing policy, citing that it falls under the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) jurisdiction. The pleas were led by industry body Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF), including companies like Razorpay and Unacademy. The court's order implies that the startups do not have the protection of an interim injunction that prevented Google from delisting their apps from its app store. However, streaming player Disney+ Hotstar and exam preparation app Testbook's appeals have not been rejected yet.
