Mushroom derived bioactive compounds have potential to combat Covid-19 and other viral infections

Scientists analyze edible mushrooms and their bioactive compounds as potential treatments against COVID-19. Mushrooms contain bioactive polysaccharides with immunomodulating, antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Mushroom-based drugs show promising results in human trials against SARS-CoV-2. Edible mushrooms can be used as a nutraceutical supplement to boost immunity without side effects. Further pre-clinical and clinical studies are needed to understand the role of mushroom-derived bioactive compounds. The study is published in the Journal of Fungi.
