3 things that thousands of authors want AI makers to do in an open letter

Over 8,500 authors from across the globe have signed an open letter addressed to the CEOs of OpenAI, Alphabet, Meta, Stability AI, and IBM, urging them to obtain permission and compensate them for the use of copyrighted materials in their artificial intelligence platforms. The letter warns that AI-generated content threatens to flood the market with mediocre work, based on copyrighted stories and ideas, without fair compensation. The signatories include Margaret Atwood, Suzanne Collins, Jodi Picoult, and Michael Chabon. The letter demands that the AI makers obtain written consent, credit, and fair remuneration from the writers.
